How City Services Are Funded
The City of Aledo uses several sources of revenue to provide services, maintain infrastructure and support daily operations. Property taxes and sales tax are two important sources of funding that help support the services residents rely on every day.
Sales Tax
Sales tax is one of the ways the City of Aledo receives revenue to support services, programs and investments throughout the community. When you make a purchase within the City of Aledo, a portion of the sales tax collected comes back to support local services and economic development efforts.
Property Taxes
Your total property tax bill includes taxes collected by multiple local entities, including the City of Aledo, Parker County and the school district.
The Parker County Appraisal District determines the taxable value of property within the City. Property owners receive tax statements based on the adopted tax rates of each taxing entity.
The City of Aledo receives only the portion of your property tax bill based on the tax rate adopted by City Council. The City does not set or collect the portions allocated to other taxing entities.
Each year, City Council adopts a property tax rate as part of the annual budget process. The City’s tax rate includes two components:
Maintenance & Operations (M&O)
Funds the daily operations and services provided by the City, including police, streets, parks and other municipal services.
Debt Service
Funds payments on voter-approved debt used for infrastructure and capital projects.
